Do smart switches still work if the internet is down?
Yes — they’re still switches, and they work by hand exactly as before. The automations keep running too, because the system that runs them lives in your house rather than in a data centre. What pauses is remote control from outside the home, and that comes back on its own.
Smart bulbs or smart switches — which should I get?
Switches, in most rooms, for one blunt reason: a smart bulb stops being smart the moment someone flips the wall switch off. Bulbs do win in specific places — a lamp on a plug, a fixture where colour genuinely matters, or a rental where you can’t touch the wiring. We’ll tell you which rooms are which rather than selling one answer everywhere.
Can you automate the blinds I already have?
Sometimes. Retrofit motors work on many existing roller and cellular blinds, and where they fit it’s the cheapest good outcome. Older or heavier coverings, and anything on an awkward window, are usually better replaced with purpose-built shades. It’s a per-window answer and the assessment gives you it.
Will this lower my power bill?
Somewhat, and we’d rather not oversell it. Dimming and switching off empty rooms uses less power, and shading cuts summer heat gain on west windows. But if you already run LED bulbs and turn lights off, the savings are modest — buy smart lighting for comfort, convenience and how the house feels in winter, and treat the efficiency as a bonus rather than the business case.
We’re renovating — when should we involve you?
At rough-in, before drywall. That’s when adding a switch leg or a shade power feed costs very little, and your electrician can plan around it. Involving us after the walls are closed doesn’t make it impossible, just more expensive and more invasive than it needed to be.
Does this work with what I already own?
Usually. We build on open standards, so lighting joins the same system as your cameras, climate and water rather than needing yet another app. If you have existing smart devices, the assessment includes an honest check of what carries over.
Do I need a subscription?
No. There’s no subscription required to use your own lights or shades — you own the hardware, and the schedules run in your home. We hand over the documentation and the credentials in your name.
