Cameras, door readers, sensors and controls all assume something: that there is a network worth putting them on. In a lot of buildings there isn’t. There is a consumer router in a cupboard, a switch nobody labelled, one flat network where the guest Wi-Fi and the server share a subnet, and a backup somebody stopped checking in 2019.
KeenAI’s original trade is that layer — cabling, racks, switching, firewalls, servers and wireless. Smart-building work grew out of it, not the other way round. When we design a camera or access system, we are designing the network it depends on at the same time, because we have spent two decades being the people who get called when that network is the problem.

Structured cabling & racks
Cat6 and fibre runs designed, terminated, numbered and tested, into racks that are dressed and labelled so the next person can work in them. Certification and as-built records handed over, not promised.
Switching & VLAN segmentation
Managed switching with the network split properly — staff, guests, cameras, door controllers and building systems each in their own VLAN, so a compromised device on the guest network cannot see your server.
Firewall & internet edge
Ubiquiti UDM gateways and firewall policy that reflects the segmentation, with failover where an outage costs you real money. Remote access done through the firewall, not through a port somebody opened once.
Wi-Fi mesh that covers the building
Access points positioned against a plan rather than guessed, wired back to the rack, tuned for the walls you actually have — including the concrete, steel and lead-lined rooms that defeat consumer gear.
Servers & virtualisation
Dell server hardware specified, racked and commissioned, with a hypervisor so several workloads share one well-protected machine instead of three ageing towers under desks.
VoIP telephony
Business phone systems that survive a move, an office reshuffle or a new hire without an engineer visit, and that keep working when one internet link goes down.

Wired back to the rack, not plugged in nearby
A ceiling access point on one of our clinic fit-outs, installed on the same visit as the cameras and the lighting. Wireless that performs is a cabling job first: every access point on its own run, positioned against a plan, terminated in a rack somebody can work in.

- Structured cabling and the equipment rack — every run numbered and terminated, the rack dressed and documented.
- Managed switching with VLAN segmentation — clinical systems, staff, guests, cameras and door control separated from each other.
- Ubiquiti UDM gateway and firewall at the internet edge, with policy matched to that segmentation.
- Wi-Fi mesh with ceiling access points positioned for the floor plan rather than for convenience.

The enclosure we installed at Eye Surgeons of Regina — a Dell server on protected power inside a locking cabinet, fed by the terminated cabling and the ceiling access point above it. What it looks like when we leave
The same rack with the door closed and conduit entering cleanly. Anyone can make a rack look acceptable on day one. The test is whether somebody who has never seen it can open it in two years and find the right cable in a minute.

Support comes with our projects rather than being sold back to you afterwards. Standard cover is 8×5, and 24×7 is in place on projects that need it — the sites where an outage overnight or on a weekend has a real cost.
Because we designed and documented the system, support is not somebody reading a wiring diagram for the first time while your practice is standing still.

Frequently asked questions
What is structured cabling?
Structured cabling is a planned cabling system for a building rather than cables run one at a time as needs arise. Runs go back to a central rack, each one is numbered and tested, and the documentation records where every port terminates. It is what allows a network, phones, cameras and door controllers to share one well-understood physical layer instead of four improvised ones.
Why does a business network need VLANs?
A VLAN separates traffic on the same physical network. Putting staff, guests, cameras, door controllers and servers on separate VLANs means a compromised device on one cannot reach the others. On a flat network, a guest laptop and a clinical server share the same space, which is the arrangement most small-business breaches rely on.
Can you take over infrastructure somebody else installed?
Yes, and much of our work is exactly that. Sound cabling, racks and hardware get reused where they are worth keeping, and we tell you honestly which parts are not. The first deliverable is usually a clear account of what you actually have, because undocumented infrastructure is the most common thing we are called about.
Do you provide ongoing IT support?
Yes. Support comes with our projects rather than being sold separately afterwards. Standard cover is 8×5, and 24×7 support is in place on projects that require it. Because we designed and documented the system, the person supporting it already knows how it was built.
Do we have to do the whole stack at once?
No. Plenty of projects are one piece — a rack rebuilt, a network segmented, Wi-Fi extended to a part of the building that never had it, or a server replaced. The design is done so later phases fit what is already installed rather than requiring it to be redone.
Can one company really do cabling, network, servers, cameras and phones?
That combination is precisely where KeenAI started, and it is the reason the smart-building side works. One design and one point of contact removes the most expensive part of a multi-vendor project: the argument about whose fault it is.
Do you work on clinics and medical offices?
