KeenAi One runs on a hub in your building, not in somebody else’s cloud. One app for lighting, climate, shades, audio, cameras and locks — with an AI assistant that works when the internet doesn’t, and that is never allowed to unlock your door on its own.
Most automation companies in Saskatchewan resell somebody else’s system. When that manufacturer discontinues a product, raises dealer pricing, or turns off a cloud service, you find out the hard way — and so does your installer.
We took the other road. KeenAi One is our own platform, built on open standards, and we can change it. That is the difference between a dealer and an engineering company, and it is the reason this page exists.
Your building keeps working when the internet doesn’t
Every decision in KeenAi One assumes the connection will drop, because in Saskatchewan it does. Automations, schedules, scenes, the wall panel and the local assistant all run on the hub in your building. Cloud access is how you reach the system from a hotel room — it is not how the system thinks.
How it fits together
Four parts. Your devices talk to a hub in your building. The hub runs the automations and the local AI. You reach it from the wall panel or your phone, on site or from anywhere. Nothing needs an open port into your home.
That last arrow matters more than it looks. The hub dials out to us; nothing dials in. There is no port forwarded to your home, which removes the single most common way home systems get attacked.

One app for everything
Lighting, climate, shades, audio, cameras, locks and sensors on one screen — not seven manufacturer apps with seven logins. Room by room, or the whole building at once.
An assistant that runs on your hub
Ask it what’s on, why the heat shut off, or what happened while you were away. It drafts automations from a plain sentence. The model runs locally, so your home’s data stays in your home — and it still answers with the internet down.
It cannot act on its own
The AI proposes; a deterministic rule engine acts. Anything safety-related — locks, alarms, heating limits — needs a written rule or your explicit approval. The AI has no authority to open a door because it thought you’d want it.
Mix any brand
Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter and Thread, plus Wi-Fi and wired systems. Apple Home works alongside it. You are not locked to one manufacturer’s catalogue or one dealer’s pricing.
We see it before you do
The hub reports its own health to us — a module that stopped, a drive filling, a device that went quiet. Alerts reach your phone. Most faults we can look at without booking a visit.
Updates that undo themselves
Software updates are health-checked as they apply. If one doesn’t come back clean, the hub rolls itself back to the last good state without anyone driving out. We have deliberately broken an update to prove it.
The part most people don’t ask about until later
Every automation platform sounds similar in a showroom. The differences show up in year three — when a manufacturer retires a product line, when your installer stops answering, or when a system that needs the cloud meets a router that doesn’t.
- Runs offline. Automations, scenes, schedules and the local assistant do not need the internet.
- No inbound ports. Nothing is exposed to the internet at your building.
- Backed up and restorable. We take checksummed backups of the hub’s configuration and have rehearsed the full wipe-and-restore, protecting a live device network.
- Open standards underneath. Your devices are ordinary Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter and IP devices, not a proprietary bus that only one dealer can touch.
- Supported from Saskatoon. The people who designed your system are the people who answer when it misbehaves.

Built in at the factory, not retrofitted on site
Ready-to-move and modular builds are the best case for a platform like this: the same hub, the same tiers, fitted on the line instead of chased through a finished wall. One dashboard covers a whole development — the system was designed from the start for a single customer to own many hubs across many sites.
Updates roll out in stages with automatic rollback, so a development can be updated without a truck roll to every unit. Remote and off-grid sites work the same way: the hub runs the building whether the link is up or not.

Three tiers, one system
Standard, Enhanced and Premium are the same platform and the same app — not three different products. They differ by the hardware in the cupboard, how many modules are switched on, and how capable the on-hub assistant is. That means a Standard hub can become an Enhanced one without rebuilding your system or relearning the app.

The usual choice
Everything in Standard, with more capable hardware, more modules switched on — cameras, entertainment, deeper security integration — and a stronger, faster local assistant for reports, explanations and proactive suggestions.
Premium
Large and complex buildings
For estates, multi-building sites and demanding commercial work: the most capable hub hardware, the full module set, and the largest on-hub model for whole-building reasoning and cross-site reporting.
Which tier a building needs depends on its size, the systems in it and how much you want the assistant to do — that is what the assessment is for. We quote per project rather than publishing a package price we would have to caveat.
KeenAi One compared with Control4, Crestron and RTI
Those are good systems and we will say so plainly. If you want a single, long-established brand with a dealer network across North America and you are happy inside that ecosystem, they are a reasonable choice — and for very large certified commercial AV work, Crestron in particular is hard to beat.
Here is where we are genuinely different:
- We can change the platform. It is ours. A dealer can file a feature request; we can write it.
- No proprietary lock-in. Standard Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter and IP devices, mixed by brand. If we part ways, your devices are still ordinary devices.
- The intelligence is on site. The assistant runs on your hub, not in a vendor cloud — so it works offline, and your home’s data doesn’t leave your home.
- Local support. Saskatoon and the surrounding region, by the people who built it, not a ticket queue.
- Honest about limits. Voice control is in development and we will tell you when it ships rather than implying it already has.
If a dealer tells you an open platform can’t be reliable, ask them what happens to your system when their manufacturer discontinues the line. That is the real question.
What we’re building next
Voice. A private, on-hub voice assistant is in development — speech that is processed in your building rather than sent to a company’s servers. It is not shipping yet. When it is, existing hubs get it as an update.
We would rather list this as coming than let you assume it is already here. That habit is the whole reason to work with us.

We walk the building, look at what’s there, and ask what actually annoys you. No charge, no obligation.
2. Design
A written design: what goes where, which tier fits, what the network needs, and what it will cost. You see it before anything is ordered.
3. Installation
Cabling and hardware first, then the hub, then the devices. Everything labelled and documented so the next person can follow it.
4. Handover & support
We set the system up with you, not at you. Then we keep watching it — health monitoring, alerts and updates that roll back if they misbehave.
Common questions
Is KeenAi One an alternative to Control4 or RTI?
Yes. It does the same job — one app and one system for lighting, climate, shades, audio, security and sensors — without tying you to one manufacturer’s product catalogue or dealer network. The main practical differences are that the intelligence runs on a hub in your building rather than a vendor cloud, and that we own the platform, so we can change it.
What happens when the internet goes out?
The building keeps working. Automations, schedules, scenes, the wall panel and the local assistant all run on the hub in your building. What you lose is remote access from outside and push alerts to your phone — both return by themselves when the connection does.
Can the AI unlock my door or change my heating on its own?
No, and that is deliberate. The assistant can read the state of your home, explain it, summarise it and draft automations, but a deterministic rule engine does the acting. Anything safety-related needs a written rule or your explicit approval. It is an advisor, not an operator.
Does my data leave the house?
The assistant runs on your hub, so the reasoning about your home happens in your home. What leaves is what’s needed for the service you asked for: system health so we can support you, and alerts you asked to receive on your phone.
Do I need a monthly subscription?
The system runs without one — it is on your hub and it is yours. Ongoing monitoring, alerting and support are a service we offer, and what that costs depends on the building. We will tell you exactly what is included before you commit to anything.
Can you take over a system somebody else installed?
Often, yes. If the devices use open standards — Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter, or ordinary IP — they can usually be brought onto KeenAi One and keep working. Proprietary equipment is a case-by-case conversation, and we will tell you honestly if the answer is no.
Does it work in a Saskatchewan winter?
The hub and controls live inside. Outdoor equipment is specified for the climate, and outdoor cable entries are sealed properly, because that is where cold-weather installs actually fail. Heating and in-floor systems are among the most common things we automate here.
Is this only for large homes?
No. The same platform runs a rental suite, a ready-to-move house, an office and an estate — the tier changes, the system doesn’t. Some of the most useful installs we do are small: leak protection with automatic shutoff, heating control, and knowing what is happening in a building you are not standing in.
